Not All Backlinks are Equal!

If you need to build up your SEO game – getting some great quality backlinks from respected sites is a great way to do it.

You can think about building up your site’s backlinks in two parts. The first is analyzing how your site should be linked to by other sites, and the second is actually getting the sites you want to add backlinks to your site.

The first aspect is complex, and there aren’t any simple answers when it comes to how great a backlink will be for your site.

We will have to settle for some things to avoid, and also have a look at tools that will help you to get the most out of a backlink.

In terms of getting backlinks to your site – the ideas are pretty simple – but more on that below.

Backlinks – What Makes them Great

Probably the biggest thing you need to keep in mind when building up backlinks is the quality of the site that is linking to yours. There are a few ways to evaluate the quality of a site, but the most common is its Domain Authority (DA) ranking.

The higher the DA ranking is, the better, but there is more to this story than that.

In addition to a great DA ranking, you need to make sure that the anchor text that the backlink uses is related to the content on your site. For example, if you are selling coffee making equipment, great anchor text could be ‘coffee machine’.

A Few Things to Avoid (like the plague)

While the ranking algos at Google might be a little hard to game, we know that they hate sites that are crammed full of ads, loads of affiliate links, or useless content.

The good news is that a high DA ranking will all but eliminate these issues, you are left making sure that the backlink’s anchor text is solid, and the websites you pursue for backlinks are doing their best to keep the site in good working order as well as avoiding abusive practices.

Remember, a few quality backlinks will do more than 1,000 bad ones, so be smart about how you use them.

Ok…So How Do I Acquire Backlinks?

Once you figure out where you would like to have backlinks placed, you will need to have the site add links to pages that will help you build your SEO presence.

Probably the best way to do this is to offer to pay for a sponsored post, or ask if you can write a guest post for the site. In most cases the site will ask you to pay for the backlinks, and will also want to know more about your site.

Adding backlinks to a site that isn’t following best practices is bad for their SEO, so make sure that your site is well-made, and doesn’t use any link building schemes that could be flagged by Google.

If done well Backlinks will help your site to rise up the Google SERP, but creating a backlink strategy that works will take some effort. Be prepared to spend time and money on it, and you should be able to create backlinks that help your web presence grow.
